Bread baking in general, but sourdough certainly can be very intimidating at first glance. There are tons of over complicated recipes and methods that can be found online. They can easily confuse, overwhelm and scare away any beginners who want to learn this wonderful baking method. My goal is to simplify things for you and make your baking journey to be real fun and joy.
I want to share why sourdough bread baking fascinates me every single day. I feel a very strong connection with this ancient fermentation method. One of the main reasons is that there are very few things remaining in our everyday life that did not go through some sort of modernization due to the vast scientific and technological advancements in the last few decades. Baking with “mother yeast” is one of them. Knowing that sourdough bread has been baked the same way for thousands of years is like time travel for me.
It is mesmerizing that with sourdough we can eat the same bread that our great grandmother ate, and that it is a knowledge that passed down through generations without any modification. The saying “Do not fix what is not broken!” cannot be more fitting here. The next reason for my obsession is that there is nothing more natural therefore healthier than sourdough.
Digital kitchen scale. It is imperative to measure the ingredients by weight instead of volume. A good starting recipe always contains the weight of the ingredients in grams. Here is my scale recommendation: https://amzn.to/3VBAJNx
